Reducing deoxynivalenol (DON) adverse effects with Safglucan®

Among mycotoxins, deoxynivalenol (DON), is one of the most prevalent and occurs worldwide in feed. DON-contaminated feed may be responsible for several adverse effects with a major impact on animal health and production. As a strategy to reduce its risk for health of the livestock, Safglucan®, an immune-modulating yeast fraction, effectively relieved DON-induced inflammation in IPEC-J2 cells, intestinal swine explants and intestinal broiler tissue, as well as improved intestinal barrier function and reduced liver lesions in broilers.

Boosting innate immunity to sustainably prevent diseases

This presentation focuses on Phileo trials in broilers and layers carried out with Safglucan® and show how this innovative solution enhances vaccine responses against viral and bacterial diseases in chicken. Thanks to its high concentration in β 1-3, β 1-6 glucans, Safglucan® enables the immune system to react faster and stronger in front of diseases. This is what is called the ‘immune training’. Thus, animals will be more protected against diseases, as their antibody levels will be higher than with the vaccine alone, ensuring optimal zootechnical performance.
