Improving performance in horses

phileo

Horses are involved in various activities such as jumping, racing, endurance, and training, each of which often exceeds their natural digestive capabilities. At Phileo by Lesaffre, we provide yeast probiotics to make the most of daily feed intake, improving performance levels, while also reducing the risk of acidosis and digestive imbalance.

Improving digestive performance

Phileo dash

Actisaf® Sc 47, the reference yeast probiotic, has repeatedly and consistently demonstrated that it can improve a horse’s ability to digest fibre, enabling the animal to make better use of energy from forage and utilise its daily rations more efficiently. Giving Actisaf® at 10g/day/horse secures these feed utilisation benefits.

The better use of daily rations by horses results in more energy being made available to meet their needs. More energy translates into better performance by horses, allowing owners to maximise their animals’ potential while also securing their digestive health.

Maintaining adequate body weight during intensive training

Phileo dash

Using the trotter exercise model, we can show that adding Actisaf® Sc 47 to concentrates at 10g/day/horse helps strengthen sporting performance.

Intensive training classically leads to weight loss, which is always detrimental to a horse’s health and a worry for trainers. Actisaf® Sc 47 supplementation prevents body weight loss for up to 90 days, as shown by the trial on the left. The first benefit is explained by the improved use of energy coming from the daily ration.

Improving heart tolerance

The ability to withstand training demands is classically expressed by a commonly used parameter called V200, which reveals heart tolerance at given speeds. 45 days of supplementation with Actisaf® Sc 47 significantly increases V200, raising equine performance during sustained training demands.

Improving blood oxygenation performance

Phileo dash

The improvement of blood oxygenation could be partially explained by a significant increase in red blood cell production and hemoglobin levels, increases which lead to better oxygenation capacity during periods of intensive work, and thus higher performance by the horse.
